Massage Students Visit “BODIES-The Exhibition”

BODIES – The Exhibition. More than a field trip. A true learning experience.

In March a few of our (now graduated) students from the 2017-2018 Night Class had the opportunity to go on a field trip to the BODIES exhibit at Atlantic Station in Atlanta. Instructors from Cohutta Healing Arts accompanied the students to help them understand what they were seeing by pointing out important and interesting features of the bodies on display. Actually seeing inside the body, and comparing the specimens with the images from textbooks, helped to provide an unprecedented opportunity for learning human anatomy, health, and biology.

For Massage Therapy Students, learning the anatomy & physiology of the body and visualizing those structures when applying massage techniques often go hand in hand. The more a student can see these structures through text book images, 3D models, videos and more, the easier it is for them to visualize when practicing on other students and on actual clients. Being able to see the muscles, bones, and other constructs of the body can aid in the understanding of how they move and function. This knowledge assists students when they begin to apply their understanding within sessions and to build the best possible plan of care for their clients.

“Seeing promotes understanding and understanding promotes the most practical kind of body education possible.”
– Dr. Roy Glover, BODIES…The Exhibition Medical Director

Each time a new group of our students has the occasion to visit this amazing exhibit they leave with a greater comprehension and appreciation of the human body–a heightened respect–that they will carry with them into their future careers.

Bodies…The Exhibition is open to the public. For more information click here.
